Who Is Doctah Rippah?
Doctah Rippah is the pseudonym of an American psychiatrist with deep Filipino and Hawaiian roots. Raised as a military dependent, he has practiced across the full spectrum of psychiatric care — inpatient, outpatient, assertive community treatment, correctional settings, geriatric unit direction, TMS consultation, and telepsychiatry. He remains in active practice today.
His family is steeped in healthcare: spouse and children in health careers, one in behavioral health. A lifelong ocean lover, he has embraced surfing, stand-up paddling, e-foiling, wingfoiling, windsurfing, aerobic/strength fitness, Muay Thai, and triathlon — using movement as both personal medicine and metaphor for mental resilience.
Through writing, Doctah Rippah explores childhood and adult experiences: ocean sports as therapy, Filipino and Hawaiian cultural identity, military family life, and the rich, sometimes challenging circumstances that shape us all.
